Notes for Whoever Will Take Care of Us When We’re Old
I started wondering about you the Easter Sunday we put the dog down.
We have a second cousin the same age as the baby we lost.
What do you think it says about us that we never tried again?
I may ask him to get into bed slowly.
& though we ache, this won’t be because of my joints or his back.
(when we first lived together, every touch every touch—)
He would lie down next to me, unfolding his body along the length of mine.
It drove me wild.
